  • Over 50 years of family history investing in Mozambique
  • Former Executive Director at JP Morgan in London, leading Strategic Investments in Europe and participating in the Board of Directors of multiple portfolio companies
  • Prior to this, he was an Engagement Manager at McKinsey & Co. focusing on Strategy for Financial Institutions
  • Gonçalo started his Investment Banking career as Analyst in Equity Sales & Equity Research at Goldman Sachs in London
  • M.B.A. from Harvard Business School, graduating as a Baker Scholar and a B.A. in Economics from Yale University, where he graduated Magna Cum Laude

  • Rafael started his Investment Banking career at Goldman Sachs in London in 2005. Prior to this, he was an entrepreneur in Italy and then worked as an analyst at Mobius Corporate Venture Capital in Spain
  • Passionate about Africa and in particular Mozambique, where he first travelled to in 2007
  • Former professional racing car driver, winning several national titles including Spanish Formula 3 in 1998 and retiring in 2002 from the World Series (current FR 3.5)

Guy Lafferty

Partner – Chief Investment Officer
  • Over 35 years of investment banking and asset management experience
  • Guy developed his professional career in London and New York at National Westminster Bank and Royal Bank of Canada in Corporate Finance advisory and Mergers & Acquisitions, with a specific focus on Oil & Gas, among other sectors
  • Between 2000 and 2016, Guy was a Founding Partner of Gemini Oil & Gas, a series of private equity funds that invested in appraisal drilling in the oil and gas industry
  • In 1990 he founded Hoegh Capital Partners (HCP), the Hoegh family office in London. While at HCP, Guy was the Executive Chairman of Rift Valley Corporation, the direct investment vehicle for Africa of HCP, and as of today one of the largest agribusiness operators in Africa outside South Africa, with 9 agriculture and forestry related business verticals in Tanzania, Zambia, Malawi, Zimbabwe and Mozambique
  • Guy currently remains a non-executive Director of RVC and is the Chairman of RVC’s Mozambican subsidiaries Rift Valley Forestry and Matanuska

  • More recently, she focused on private sector development such as SMEs, rural development and impact investing
